ABU DHABI ART 2023

22 - 26 November 2023
Booth: G25

Gallery Isabelle is pleased to present Shared Meanings, a group presentation with works by Lubna Chowdhary, Hassan Sharif, Mohammed Kazem, Nargess Hashemi and Hoda Tawakol. The exhibition brings together works that draw on the artists' research into material culture and its social histories.

Our 'Emerge' booth is mainly occupied with an installation of paintings by Nargess Hashemi (b. 1979, Tehran) titled 'In the Absence of Narrative(2023) taking inspiration from Iranian traditions in book design and illuminated manuscripts. Geometrical shapes, empty lines, and blank voids compose these elegant pages, inviting the viewer to imagine a written tale.

Our Focus booth features of a new multi-part ceramic installation by Lubna Chowdhary (b. 1976, Tanzania) where her inspiration draws from industrially manufactured objects and architecture, yet 'Certain Times LXXV(2023) possesses a remarkable richness due to its artisanal or rigorous arrangements. The ideas of this seemingly oppositional dialectic are also visible in the late artist Hassan Sharif (1951 – 2016) selection of unique drawings, painting and objects where notions like abstract and figurative, mechanical and organic, traditional and forward-looking, constantly mirror each other.
