This book is the first monograph on the multifaceted body of work by the most prolific artist in the Gulf region. Hassan Sharif (born 1951) is looked on as one of the most important contemporary artists in the Gulf region. Since the early seventies, he has been working on a multifaceted oeuvre encompassing very different media, including caricatures, performances, installations, scientific experiments, objects, drawings, and paintings, which, taken altogether, comprise a complex, formal system. His works are shown regularly in Venice-at the 2009 and 2015 Biennale, for example-and at the Sharjah Biennial. Many of his works are included in the permanent collections of the National Museum in Qatar and the Art Museum in Sharjah, as well as in private collections across the United Arab Emirates and numerous other countries.
