Hassan Sharif is participating in Unlicensed Goods at YDP, London, curated by Billy Tang, on view from 12 June–15 August 2026. The exhibition brings together Asian and Asian diasporic artists to explore alternative systems of production, exchange, and authorship shaped by migration and global movement.
Sharif’s presentation includes Funnelled Paper (1985), one of his earliest assemblages created during his student years at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London. Produced during a period of constant movement between London and the UAE, the work belongs to an important early phase in which Sharif transported and mailed works between the two places; like several works from this period, it physically changed and gradually shrank through its travels, reflecting his interest in process, movement, and a resistance to systems of production and rapid commercialisation.
