Silent Hands
Mohammed Kazem as part of “Silent Hands” at Hayy Jameel, Jeddah. The group exhibition explores questions of work and leisure in Asia and its diasporas, considering intersections with gender, financial independence, social mobility, and migration.

Kazem’s exhibited series ‘Even the Shade Does not Belong to Them’ (2018) was inspired by photographs portraying blue-collar workers in Dubai, swashes of dark-coloured acrylic and ink creating distance between the scene and the viewer. While the colour palette is quiet and contemplative, it speaks volumes in revealing the layered lives of the marginalised, whose stories are often untold.

Also exhibited are the works of Pacita Abad, Hangama Amiri, Maha Malluh, Khairullah Rahim, Anhar Salem and Aarti Sunder.  “Silent Hands” was curated by Art Jameel’s Rotana Shaker, alongside guest curators Zain Al Saie, and Jean Wong.
