Ramin and Rokni Haerizadeh and Hesam Rahmanian often create provocative objects that challenge conventional concepts of art, while incorporating the contributions of other individuals, other artists, carpenters, technicians, thinkers and caretakers, pushing the boundaries of life imitating art and vice versa.
The table exists in a state of impermanence as the three artists engage in an ongoing negotiation, discussing current affairs and painting the table in real time. Other unwitting contributors enter the discussion as users add to the work by placing objects over the table, further blurring the lines of objecthood and subjecthood; functionality and aesthetics.
Rooted in Islamic art, as seen in rugs and textile works, the horizontal painting deliberately avoids the wall in a nod to undermine standard artistic conventions. The table thus becomes a subversive object, existing in a liminal space between art and life.
