jinoos taghizadeh
- Studying sculpture and dramatic literature at the University of Tehran, Jinoos Taghizadeh has appeared in group shows with B21 in Dubai as well as Mexico, Italy, Sweden and Germany. She has also exhibited in solo shows in Tehran and a public installation in Switzerland.
The artist incorporates a lenticular effect into her work, similar to that of a hologram whereby a different image is visible depending on the position of the viewer. Taghizadeh melds Iranian newspaper covers contemporary to the 1979 Islamic Revolution with images from art history - Jacques-Louis David’s ‘Death of Marat’, Hieronymus Bosch’s biblical terrors and Pieter Brueghel’s peasants. The works suggest a disparity between the bold claims of the revolution and the difficult reality since, as if – in all that breast beating – something coherent was lost along the way. Rock, Paper, Scissors, the title of the collection, refers to the game of chance that massive social upheavals such as a revolution often pivot on.
